Ebbw Vale school receives funding boost
29 March 2022

An Ebbw Vale primary school has received £1,000 to help buy new benches to give pupils a place to sit, talk and support each other.
The Parent Teacher Friends Association (PTFA) at Willowtown Community Primary School, on Brynheulog Street, works tirelessly to improve the school for pupils.
Now the group has received a financial boost.
The money comes through our Community Champions scheme, through which we donate up to £64,000 each month – and up to £4,000 in Wales.
The PTFA will use the windfall to purchase ‘buddy benches’.
Julie Worthing, of the PTFA, said: “This money is a great boost for us and we are extremely grateful to Persimmon Homes for their amazing generosity.
“We work really hard to support not just the children of the school but also the parents, carers and the overall community.
“We have over 500 children at the school who all come from different backgrounds, but everyone comes together as one group and supports each other.
“Fundraising has been really tricky throughout the pandemic for obvious reasons.
“The buddy benches will encourage the children to sit, talk and support each other at these trying times. We’re also fundraising for an outside classroom as well as new iPads.”
Victoria Williams, Sales Director at East Wales, said: “We’re delighted to be able to support Willowtown Community Primary School PTFA with this money.
“It’s fantastic that the school has such a committed group of parents working to improve the school in so many different ways.
“Fundraising has been tough for groups like this, so it’s great to be able to lend a helping hand through Community Champions.”
We are currently building 250 new properties at Carn y Cefn, which is on the former Ebbw Vale Comprehensive School and College site on Waun-Y-Pound Road.
The first homes have now been released for sale – and more than a dozen have already been reserved.
