Falmouth Town AFC scores donation from local housebuilder
28 June 2024
Falmouth Town AFC has secured a £3,000 donation from a local housebuilder who is developing on land opposite the team’s ground.
The club was established in 1949 and last season secured promotion to Division One South of the Southern League, as well as winning the Cornwall Senior Cup.
Earlier this week, Persimmon presented a cheque for £3,000 to Club Director Malcolm Newland, in the presence of the Falmouth Mayor Cllr Alan Rowe and Deputy Mayor Cllr Louise Coley at Bickland Park.
The five-star developer has delivered hundreds of new homes for local people at its local Eve Parc development, with a wide choice of 2, 3 and 4 bedroom homes available from £264,500.
Persimmon also recently received planning permission from Cornwall Council for phase four of its development at the site, which will see the housebuilder deliver 36 quality new homes for local people, 13 of which will be transferred to a housing association partner.
As part of the scheme, Persimmon will make financial contributions to the local authority worth over £200,000 for the benefit of healthcare, education, transport, public open space, and public rights of way in the area as well as the Fal and Helford special area of conservation.
Commenting on the donation to Falmouth Town AFC, Persimmon Homes Cornwall Sales Director, Jane Cartwright, said:
“Persimmon enjoys a significant presence around Falmouth AFC, having provided hundreds of new homes for local people in the area.
“The club has been incredibly supportive over the years, and we are proud to be able to support Falmouth Town AFC as it goes from strength to strength, both on and off the field.
“The club provides incredible social value for people in the area, encouraging teamwork, discipline, and good physical and mental health, as well as providing entertainment on the pitch.
“Persimmon is proud to support the club through our Community Champions initiative as we continue to give our backing to local good causes and organisations in Falmouth.”
Graham Medlin, Chairman of Falmouth Town AFC, added:
“We’re thrilled to have secured this support from Persimmon – it’s a fantastic boost for our club.
“Fundraising like this is vital for us to deliver on our vision for the club, which includes not only success on the field but also making a positive impact off the field.
“We are committed to fostering a strong community spirit and providing opportunities for people of all ages to get involved in football.
“This support from Persimmon will help us to continue our mission and build a brighter future for Falmouth Town AFC.”
The grant for Falmouth Town AFC comes from the company’s Community Champions fund that sees over £700,000 every year donated to good causes and much-valued organisations across Britain. Recent local recipients include Cornwall Air Ambulance.
