Families First Peterborough CIC has received £1,000 funding boost from the Community Champions scheme.
Cherry Lester of Families First explains: “Our organisation provides, among other services, free open access play every Saturday morning for local children and families.
“The sessions are provided free of charge because we want those who attend to be able to, have fun and access informal support without having to worry about any fees. Some of the activities we offer include, sports, outside games, den building, cooking, shared meals, arts & crafts, tabletop games, pool and imaginary play. A donation of £1 can be made for lunch club, which takes place at the end of the morning sessions.
“We receive very positive feedback from children, who have told us how they have made new friends and have something to look forward to each week. Parents and carers have also said how they value having a safe and fun place for their children to attend in the local community.
“Our team of experienced and friendly staff all work hard to build positive relationships and are available to offer informal parenting advice as and when required. Staff are also able to signpost to other valuable support services too.
“Sustaining a free project is a real challenge and we are always looking at ways of raising the funds we need to support our activities. We decided to apply to Persimmon Homes’ Community Champions scheme and we are thrilled they have agreed to support us with this donation.”
Nick Phillips, managing director for our East Midlands region, said: “The challenges and pressures facing many families these days are immense and we are only too pleased to support Families First in their work to help support and ease some of the burden for parents and children.”
