First things first
15 December 2020
Andrew and Kirsten Kelly didn’t let an international Pandemic get in the way of their plans to tie the knot and buy their first home – in fact they almost ended up doing them both on the same day!
Now they’re officially married and the first customers to move into their new home at Eden Woods in Guardbridge, they couldn’t be happier.
Senior sales advisor, Jo-Anne Davies at the Eden Woods development was excited to offer the couple the 15th October to move in not realising the significance of the date until Andrew and Kirsten explained that it was their wedding day. Fortunately, Jo-Anne and the site team managed to push the move back a week to 22nd October!
The two met more than 15 years ago at a primary school choir and had not seen each other until a chance meeting at university in St Andrews several years later where they were both studying. Andrew, now a trainee chartered accountant working in Dundee and Kirsten, studying for a Masters at St Andrews in Sustainable Development, reconnected two years ago. Not long after their engagement, they started looking at options for a home together once they were married.
Adamant that he wanted a newbuild, Andrew, said that Guardbridge was an ideal location between his work and St Andrews for Kirsten’s studies. Initially the couple looked at the two-bed Portree before realising that with the help of the Scottish Government’s First Home Fund they could stretch their budget a little further to buy a three-bedroom end terrace Newmore.
“Having a bedroom that we could convert into an office and a third bedroom that we can use for guests is exactly what we hoped for,” said Kirsten. “Both of us are working from home quite a lot so the extra space has made such a difference. Although the Portree would have worked for us, the larger kitchen in the Newmore gives us a bit more flexibility.”
Andrew loves to watch what is going on here at the site and is fascinated with the progress – he likes it so much he has thought further ahead suggesting that they’ll look at moving to a larger house within the site nearer the end of the build programme. “Being the first to move into the development was the icing on the cake after our wedding and I’m enjoying watching the development take shape. It’s been really reassuring seeing how much pride all the site team take in their work, and, combined with the location, I wouldn’t hesitate to buy a four bedroom house here if we need more space in future.”
Kirsten agreed: “The entire experience has been positive for us. Both sales and site staff have been great and are very approachable, putting our minds at rest with every question we had. Our list of snagging was minimal even though Andrew is a perfectionist and anything we found was sorted out very efficiently – the team arranged a time that suited us for all the works and couldn’t have been better.”Kirsten’s studies led her to appreciate the environmental aspects of the development too: “Our home has solar panels and excellent insulation – as well as the environmental benefits, it makes it much more economical to run than we expected, even with us both working from home most of the time. Both of us are studying for exams before Christmas but once they’re finished, we’re really looking forward to our first Christmas as a married couple in our first home.”
