Foodbank receives donation boost
18 February 2021
Vulnerable households facing a struggle for food during Covid have been handed a £1,000 boost.
Our Midlands region made the donation after being contacted by Roade Community Larder – a free food scheme created in response to the pandemic. Spokesperson Brenda Woolf said: “Many people round here are struggling to get enough food at present, due to a combination of Covid shielding, poor health, change in financial circumstances or lack of transport. We’re a voluntary team that sources good food that’s otherwise destined for landfill. We desperately need funding to continue providing weekly parcels to vulnerable households in Roade and the surrounding villages.” Anyone needing to receive support from Roade Community Larder can contact the group by messaging Brenda on 07941 238444.<.p>
Persimmon Homes Midlands sales director Claire Dearsley said: “We were made aware of the great work carried out by Roade Community Larder and felt it was very worthy of our support. We know how hard the pandemic has hit many within the community and this group is going to be a vital source of support for many months yet.”
The donation has been made as part of our pioneering Community Champions programme, in which we allocate funding to local good causes each month. For more information and details of how to apply, visit the website.
