Football club in Scunthorpe score funding win

A community football club in Scunthorpe is celebrating after netting a £5,000 donation from Yorkshire region.
Crosby United Juniors Football Club have been awarded the money after successfully applying for funding via Persimmon’s Community Champions initiative.
Coach Stewart Atkinson and players from Crosby’s under 8s team this week welcomed representatives from Persimmon and Scunthorpe MP Holly Mumby-Croft to formally receive a cheque for £5,000.
The funding will be put towards a partnership with local wellbeing organisations to provide pastoral care for youngsters at the club’s Foxhills Sports Ground.
Taking receipt of the cheque, Stewart Atkinson said: “We’re delighted to receive this donation.
“We take pride in serving the local community, providing a safe and friendly accessible space where young people can develop and grow.
“This money will help further develop the support and care we provide local youngsters so we’re really grateful to have the funding to develop these plans.”
Holly Mumby-Croft, MP for Scunthorpe said: “It’s great to join Stewart and some of his young players to see Crosby United Juniors awarded this fantastic donation.
“I’ve seen first-hand on previous visits the hard work and dedication that volunteers put in so that youngsters can enjoy a sport they love.
“Clubs like Crosby United play an invaluable role in the local community and I hope this funding will help the club continue to go from strength to strength.”
