Football club nets funding from Persimmon

23 August 2021

A football club in Burton-on-Trent has received £750 from Persimmon Homes North Midlands as part of its Community Champions scheme.

Here at Persimmon we make £64,000 a month available to fund community initiatives across the UK.

Stapenhill Football Club runs over 20 teams from under 7's through to senior level and has been looking for a sponsor for their match and training kits ahead of the new season.

Martin Moreton, from the club, said: “Thank you Persimmon Homes, this generous donation has come just in time with the new season around the corner.

“I’m currently running an under 11 team next season and we’ve been looking for funding to make sure we have the very best facilities and equipment available.

“We’re going to use the £750 to buy new match kits as well as training wear because we’re currently using whatever the kids have got and it doesn’t look very professional.

“We pride ourselves on being a warm, friendly and ambitious club and with so many teams across different age groups, we just want to be the best we can.”

Located on Maple Grove, Burton-on-Trent, Stapenhill Football Club is just a few miles from Beamhill Heights, a new collection of detached, semi-detached, 2, 3 and 4 bedroom homes.

Martin added: “I’ve seen the new development just up the road because it’s very close to where our team train and play. We have four players in the team who go to the school closest to the site too.

“I had a look on the Persimmon website and that’s where I found out about all the amazing charity work it does, including Community Champions.

“We’re so grateful to be able to showcase the Persimmon logo as part of our new kit sponsorship and we just want to say thank you again for choosing us and making all of this possible.”

Nadine O'Dowd, sales director at North Midlands, said: “We do a lot of work with local football clubs, especially at junior level, but when we heard from Stapenhill FC it was clear it has a lot of ambition.

“All the coaches put so much time and dedication in to running the club so it gives us great pleasure to be able to reward them with this donation.

“We can’t wait to see the new match and training kits and we would like to wish Martin and his team the very best of luck for the new season.”
