A rugby academy in Melksham has received a financial boost from Persimmon Homes Wessex. The Mad Dog Rugby Academy at Melksham Oak Community School has been gifted £3,000 towards new kit and equipment thanks to the regional builder.
Founded by former England rugby captain Lewis Moody MBE, the programme encourages pupils to continue with post 16 academic studies, using rugby as a foundation. It leads to a level two rugby coaching qualification and is aimed at youngsters who want to carry on and develop their rugby skills while studying for A levels and BTECs.
As well as learning about the game itself, students gain knowledge about nutrition, injury prevention, body conditioning, well-being and leadership.
"The programme allows sporty pupils and rugby enthusiasts to develop their game, but to also help them with their own studies" said Lewis.
"We can't thank Persimmon Homes enough for this generous donation, which will go a long way to create a very supportive and successful teaching environment."
Pauline Fletcher, sales and marketing director of Persimmon Homes Wessex, said: "Rugby has so many benefits, which can help develop more rounded individuals who will have a positive impact on out local community. We are only too pleased to provide this funding to give young people the chance to not only improve their rugby skills, but to also give them greater confidence, team working and leadership qualities."
