Girls football club nets funding for new kit

A grassroots football club for girls in Wigan has secured some much-needed funding.
Golborne Girls FC received £1,000 through our Community Champions scheme, an initiative that each month makes two awards of up to £1,000 to carefully selected good causes in the local community.
Michelle Leatham, who successfully applied for the money, said: “We are a local, grassroots all girl football club, offering football training to girls aged from five up to 16 years of age.
“We currently have four teams playing competitively, and are raising money for coats, training tops and team wear. In the past we have done bag packing at various shops, but due to Covid this has not been possible.”
She said football cards and raffles were currently the main source of income for the club.
“Thank you Persimmon, this has come at just the right time. The money will go directly to our u11s team to purchase team wear for over the summer and the following season.”
