Giving furniture and accessories a new lease of life

When our Instagram Ambassador Holly Barratt moved into her brand-new Persimmon home on Christmas Eve, styling options and money were limited!
But with an eye for colour and some savvy swaps, 30-year-old Holly was able to bring her statement pieces of furniture and favourite accessories seamlessly from old home to new.
Holly lives in a 4-bed Chedworth in Kent with husband Aaran and three children, and through her hugely successful Instagram account, @hollysbuttercup_interiors, shares her gorgeous home with more than 13,000 followers.
Holly said: “We moved into our Persimmon Chedworth on Christmas Eve, and as money and options were tight I found myself incorporating some of the accessories from my old house into my new home.
“I knew I wanted to have a more muted and natural feel to this house. The kitchen work tops were already in place so revolving my style around the kitchen enabled it to flow. I went with a wood / industrial feel. The wood makes the place feel cosy while the black accessories make it feel more modern.
“I was concerned that my abstract painting from the previous living room wouldn’t go well in my new living room as it has pink in it - but after I hung it I was surprised how well the pink merged with the greys, blacks and greens of the room. The grey in the art now seems more khaki, but I think that is to do with the greenery of the plants along with the green and black tones I have in the living room!”
Not everything was quite so straightforward though.
“I did have to rearrange some of my items, as they simply didn’t ‘go’ as well in the new house. For instance, the mirrored console table that was in the hallway of my old house has been moved into my bedroom in the new house – I have mirrored accessories and it just flows so much better in there than it would have done downstairs!”
Holly said that she loves sharing her interior design ideas on Instagram and added the Chedworth has proved the perfect canvas for her inspiration: “I’m really enjoying finding different styles, feels and textures and playing around with different ideas. The Chedworth has such a lovely space to work with and loads of character – I can’t wait to share my next project!”
