Graduate trainee hits the ground running in North Scotland
09 January 2023

The latest recruit to the General Management Graduate Scheme is gaining first-hand experience of the housing and construction sector in the North Scotland regional head office.
Christopher McKay, 24, will rotate around each of the firm’s core functions to gain a broad understanding of the business and what each department contributes.
Before joining Persimmon, Christopher gained a business degree from the University of Strathclyde in 2020, majoring in Marketing and HR. Christopher’s first role is with North Scotland’s land and planning team before he moves to technical, commercial, construction, sales and customer care.
He is looking forward to gaining experience of the different departments and developing as the programme progresses.
Christopher said:
“I’m really excited to join Persimmon’s graduate scheme and I’ve already hit the ground running with the land and planning team. It’s been really interesting to get out on site visits and contextualise a lot of what I’ve learned so far.
“The scheme is ideal because you get to experience a wide range of business functions – which means you can not only get an understanding of what the different departments do, but also discover which roles you most enjoy and best suit your skills.
“I know Persimmon has a big focus on providing good quality jobs and apprenticeships for local people and I’m looking forward to taking advantage of all the opportunities the graduate scheme will bring.”
James MacKay, North Scotland Managing Director, said:
“Christopher fought off stiff competition to become Persimmon’s Scottish General Management graduate and we were delighted to welcome him to the North Scotland team.
“He’s already shown a great energy and enthusiasm for the industry and I know he’ll get great experience working with the different teams across our business. I look forward to him building a successful career at Persimmon over the coming months and years.”
