Grand donation helps the homeless
23 June 2022

A local charity that provides supported accommodation for young homeless people is the latest recipient of funding.
Wessex has donated a £1,000 grant to Cirencester Housing for Young People (CHYP) as it continues to help local groups and charities in the area.
We donate up to £64,000 a month to fund initiatives as part of the highly successful Community Champions scheme.
Rebecca Cotton, from CHYP, said: “On behalf of everyone at the charity I’d like to say a huge thank you to Persimmon Homes for choosing us.
“When a young person arrives at CHYP their Supported Housing Officer works with them 1:1 to identify their support needs; this could be life skills, literacy, numeracy, budgeting or managing their own health.
“Many of these young people also have previously unidentified learning difficulties or mental health issues, which we help them address. We enable young people to locate appropriate education, work experience or training, working towards our goal of independent living.
“We’re going to use this grant towards keyworker wages to ensure we can provide the level of 1-2-1 sessions and group sessions undertaken by our experienced staff.
“Increased investment allows CHYP to use preventative approaches that proactively identify young people at risk and support them to access services, including mental health support and a safe place to live. It will also allow extra staffing hours for supporting ex residents to remain living independently.”
Pauline Fletcher, sales director for Persimmon Homes Wessex, said: “We’re delighted to be supporting Cirencester Housing for Young People with our Community Champions donation.
“The charity not only offers local young people a roof over their heads but also the practical and emotional support they need which is so important.
“Rebecca and the team do some amazing work in the community and hopefully this £1,000 will help them teach more people how to look after themselves, help them gain confidence and live a more fulfilling life.”
