Grand support for wheelchair sports
21 December 2020
Members of a Teesside wheelchair sports club have won the backing of a regional housebuilder.
Tees Valley Wheelchair Sports Club has been gifted £1,000 by Persimmon Homes Teesside to help meet the cost of running its basketball, tennis and racing teams.
Brian Russell, for the club, said: “We are a charity helping children and adults play wheelchair sports, such as wheelchair basketball, wheelchair tennis and wheelchair racing.
“To help fund the specialised equipment needed to help every participant take part we have bag packed, held park events, tombolas, taken part in Middlesbrough 10k and our users and family members have also raised money through different means.
“This generous donation will also help fund our travel when we are competing – we are very glad of the support.”
Persimmon Homes Teesside made the donation through the Persimmon Homes Community Champions scheme.
The programme enables clubs, groups and good causes to apply for funding up to the value of £1,000 to match money they have already raised themselves. Each month Thornaby-based Persimmon Homes Teesside donates two cash pots - each worth up to £1,000.
This also happens across Persimmon’s other 31 operating areas, meaning up to £64,000 is dished out every single month – a total of £768,000 a year.
Kevin Thubron, managing director of Persimmon Homes Teesside, added: “We are delighted to support the Tees Valley Wheelchair Sports Club and wish them every success in their competitions.”For more information on Persimmon Homes Community Champions scheme and to apply visit www.persimmonhomes.com/charity
