Haverfordwest housing development to bring benefits
12 December 2018
A development of almost 180 new homes in Haverfordwest would lead to hundreds of jobs and much-needed investment in the local area.
Persimmon Homes West Wales will shortly be submitting a planning application for 179 new homes behind the former Redhill School building on Scarrowscant Lane and they are proposing a mix of starter homes for first-time buyers, as well as mid-market properties and larger family homes.
As well as bringing much-needed housing to the area, the development will also include on-site open space and play facilities, and Persimmon will make financial contributions towards local facilities. The proposal is currently subject to a pre-application consultation and once that consultation period has finished, a formal application will be submitted to Pembrokeshire County Council. If approved, Persimmon intends to start building on site in early 2019, with the first people moving in towards the end of the year.
Andy Edwards, director in charge at Persimmon Homes West Wales, said: “We are delighted to be pressing forward with our plans for these 179 much-needed new homes. Good quality, affordable housing is desperately needed right across south-west Wales, and that’s certainly the case in Haverfordwest. This scheme will go some way towards addressing that need so that people who have grown up in the town have the opportunity to stay there when they leave the family home. Furthermore, this development will create more than 750 jobs* and will lead to investment in the Haverfordwest area.
The development will be known as Merlins Lane and interested house hunters are now able to register their interest to be kept up-to-date with progress. Andy added: “We are expecting these properties to be very popular, so we’d recommend serious househunters get ahead of the rest by registering an interest today.”
