Home office desire for Welsh househunters

27 August 2020

Suitable office space has become a ‘must-have’ for many househunters in Wales, according to the Persimmon Homes.

The Covid-19 pandemic has had a dramatic effect on all aspects of life for people in Wales, prompting a considerable change in what househunters are looking for in a new property.

Though the UK Government has urged workers to return to their offices, for many people the way in which they carry out their jobs has changed forever.

Victoria Williams, sales director at Persimmon Homes East Wales, said there had been a shift in priorities with buyers looking for a ready-made office in their home.

“Many househunters are telling us that they are being asked to work from home more regularly or, in some cases, permanently,” said Victoria.

“Perching at a breakfast bar or taking over the dining room table is not ideal, so people want a quiet space where they can concentrate away from the noise and activity of the household.”

“Consequently, a stylish home office is increasingly becoming an important item on a buyer’s checklist when they are looking for a new home.”

“That generally means people want a house with an extra bedroom they can use as an office.”

“I think social media has played a part as well as people have been posting pictures of their smart working environments and that has caused a bit of ‘home office envy’.”

“It makes sense. Having that space away from your private life offers a multitude of benefits that will help workers to define a positive work life balance, improve productivity and maintain mental health.”

“Location has always been at the top of buyers must have list and that will always be the case, with the number of bedrooms a close second, but perhaps the property market is set to see a shift towards the need for work-space.”

One popular option has been the three-storey Townhouse at Persimmon’s Sycamore Gardens development in Blackwood, which comes with a designated study on the first floor, away from the three bedrooms and bathroom on the second floor.

Persimmon Homes East Wales has a range of show homes featuring home offices. To find out about the homes available or to arrange an appointment to view one of the show homes visit: https://www.persimmonhomes.com/wales.html
