Homelessness charity boosted by backing from East Scotland

17 January 2023

A homelessness charity’s fundraising drive has been boosted by a £2,000 donation from East Scotland region.

Crisis UK is the national charity for homeless people. Staff and volunteers at the Edinburgh Skylight – and across the Lothians – work directly with thousands of homeless people every year, providing vital help so that people can rebuild their lives and be supported out of homelessness for good.

The £2,000 donation is being delivered through our Community Champions programme, which supports good causes in areas where the company builds, and will be used to ensure more people can benefit from the vital services Crisis provides.

Direct services the charity offers across the Lothians include education, training and support for people experiencing homelessness. The charity campaigns nationally for the changes needed to end homelessness in Scotland altogether, while also providing expertise and advice to local partners to help make it happen.

Fiona Smith, Director of Crisis Skylight Edinburgh, said:

“We are very grateful to Persimmon for this generous donation, which will help us to continue to provide year-round support to our members and help them end their homelessness for good.

“At Crisis we work tirelessly to help people rebuild their lives and put homelessness behind them, while also campaigning for the changes we need to help end homelessness in Scotland entirely.

“With the cost of living crisis pushing more people closer to homelessness, donations like these are more important than ever.”

Neil Parry, East Scotland Managing Director, said:

“We all share a desire to end homelessness and the staff and volunteers at Crisis UK deserve huge credit for the work they’re doing in the Lothian region and across the country to support those most in need.

“Our Community Champions programme is all about supporting the communities in which we operate and I hope this donation will help ensure more people across the Lothians can be supported out of homelessness for good.”

Supporting your communities

At Persimmon we're proud to support our local communities. Our Community Champions programme was established in 2015 and has already donated more than £3 million to over 3,500 good causes across Great Britain. We also have a programme of community events taking place as part of our partnership with Team GB for the 2024 Paris Olympics, along with other great initiatives.

Our hugely successful Community Champions programme has already donated more than £1 million to good causes in England, Wales and Scotland. Whilst the programme is running, each of our regional offices makes a donation of up to £6,000 every quarter to local organisations.

We're proud to be one of Team GB's official partners for Paris 2024. In the lead up to the Olympics we'll be posting lots of exciting content in partnership with Team GB, from athlete appearances to competitions and challenges.
