Ideas sought for Dunstable sculptures
17 March 2021
Local people have been asked to help a chainsaw sculptor to design three wooden benches for a Dunstable new homes development.
Peter Leadbeater is currently commissioned to create the artistic installations for our Phoenix Park site in the town. The sculptural benches will be placed within the public open spaces, giving residents a pleasant place to sit and enjoy their surroundings.
The artist explained: “The three benches will be specifically designed for this location, so we want them to reflect and resonate with local people and their environment. We invite residents to share their ideas for the artistic pieces. These could include elements of local history or wildlife, people or places that would be suitable for the development and Dunstable.” Ideas and suggestions can be sent to email@example.com. The experienced wood sculptor has created wooden artwork for local authorities, schools, parks and private clients throughout the UK. Examples of his work can be viewed at www.peterleadbeater.com.
Persimmon Homes Central regional director, Simon McDonald, added: “Public art is an important aspect of the development plan, bringing something beautiful and accessible to the people living within that site. For the Phoenix Park project, we are consulting with local people and two nearby schools to help create charming seating that will enhance the enjoyment of the public open spaces with the development. We are excited to hear people’s ideas and see how these are incorporated into Peter’s designs.”
Phoenix Park, on Church Street, offers a range of modern and practical two bedroom apartments with prices from £195,950. For more information visit the website.
