Ieuan laying the foundations for a successful future
12 February 2021
Ieuan Powell is on the road to a long and successful career in bricklaying after completing the first year of his apprenticeship with Persimmon Homes.
Ieuan, from Bridgend, has impressed managers with his technical ability and has hopes of one day running his own business.
“It’s a brilliant opportunity and I’m really enjoying it,” said Swansea City fan Ieuan.
“It’s hard work but enjoyable and I’m learning more every day.”
“The ambition now is to keep progressing, finish the three-year course and then one day think about starting my own bricklaying business.”
“Apprenticeships are a great way to get started in a career and I’ve recommended that route to some friends and family.”
Ieuan first enrolled in a vehicle maintenance course when he left school but found that wasn’t for him and went on to work as a sales assistant at a clothing store while looking for other opportunities.
He has flourished at bricklaying and is now producing work of a very high standard.
Carl Davey, Construction Director at Persimmon Homes West Wales, said: “Ieuan is a technically very good bricklayer.”
“Recently, Ieuan has been the model professional and has displayed a good level of maturity.”
“I have no doubt that he has a bright future ahead of him.”
Ieuan added: “Persimmon have offered me support and help whenever I have needed it. It’s a great company and I am quickly learning how to be an efficient bricklayer, which will stand me in good stead for the future.”
