John celebrates silver anniversary with Persimmon Homes

16 November 2016

When John Stent joined Persimmon Homes in 1991, John Major was Prime Minister and Tottenham Hotspur were the FA Cup holders.

Twenty five years later, John, a sales negotiator for the company’s East Midlands business, is still enjoying the housing industry and is working at the Cardea development in Peterborough.

The 73-year-old, who has three children, four grandchildren and is soon to have two great grandchildren, is now one of the longest serving members of staff at the UK housebuilder.

John, who started his career with Beazer Homes (which was eventually bought out by Persimmon Homes), said he’s enjoying it as much as ever.

He said: “There’s something quite special about helping people find their dream home

“Even 25 years on I still share joy with a customer when I hand over the keys because it’s the start of a new chapter in their life.”

“It’s either their first home, they’re moving because of a new addition to the family, they’ve got a new job or they’re relocating. Moving to a new property is about a new beginning and I love that part of the job.”

John started working for Persimmon Homes in Essex before relocating to Peterborough years later. His family have since settled in the area and have become very much a part of the community

He recalls the days when central heating didn’t come as standard and says customers have much more options available now.

He added: “I remember the days when there were two styles of kitchens and that was your lot and you had to pay additionally if you wanted central heating.”

“Now there is so much choice for customers to choose from and they have much knowledge on the product that they are looking to buy. That’s a great thing because you have a shared understanding of a house and its potential."

John was presented with a leather travel wallet engraved with his initials, JRS, as a small thank you for his service.

Simon McDonald, deputy managing director of Persimmon Homes East Midlands, paid tribute, adding: “John has shown tremendous dedication in his 25 years with the company and it fantastic to have him on board.”

“His expertise and experience is vital for helping not only other members of staff but our customers when choosing their perfect Persimmon Homes property.”

“It is great to see his passion for customer service and he has been the ultimate professional during those years. John is great example for many people looking to get into the housing profession.”
