Marathon Kids UK Redditch, a charity dedicated to improving children’s fitness, is to receive a £1,000 funding boost from Community Champions.
Jason Furness, race director for Marathon Kids UK Redditch, explains: “Our purpose is to encourage kids to be physically active by organising running events every Saturday with a view to helping improve their physical and mental well-being.
“We are currently trying to raise money to improve these weekly running sessions as we would like to purchase an event gazebo as well as medals and T-shirts for the kids taking part. We have been doing this by organising raffles with donated items from major supermarkets and local companies and by applying for charity funding from a range of organisations.
“Taking part in regular exercise is not only excellent for overall physical fitness, but it also makes a big difference to children’s mental health while improving their confidence and self esteem. We are very grateful to Persimmon Homes for this money and it is definitely going to be very well spent on the items we need.”
Amanda Rogers, head of sales for at our South Midlands region, said: “This is a great charity which works very much at local level to keep children physically active, which in turn goes a long way to keeping them fit and healthy in both mind and body.
“Having the event gazebo, medals and T-shirts will enhance the overall weekly experience for them, creating a real ‘club environment’ for the children taking part and their families, who go along to watch and cheer them on. We are delighted to be able to help with this £1,000 donation to an excellent cause.”
