Knock-out donation for ambitious Valleys boxing club
29 March 2022

An ambitious Valleys boxing club has secured £1,000 of funding to help fix a leaking roof and extend its services for the local community.
Ogmore Valley Dragons Boxing Club, which provides boxing classes and wellbeing sessions, has bagged the money from our Community Champions scheme.
Each month we donate up to £64,000 to good causes across the UK, including up to £4,000 in Wales.
Dean Morgan, of Ogmore Valley Dragons Boxing Club, said: “We are extremely grateful to Persimmon Homes for this tremendous donation.
“We provide boxing classes to under-18s and adults in the Nant-y-moel, Ogmore Vale, Pantyrawel, Lewistown, Blackmill, Bryncethin and Sarn areas.
“In the basement of the club we offer holistic therapy and life coaching services to support the mental wellbeing of our community, as well as the physical fitness.
“Last year through grant funding we were able to secure the ownership of our building, which was a big step for us.
“Now we are looking to raise £14,500 to get the roof properly repaired to make the club watertight and safe for all who use it.”
The club aims to improve health, wellbeing and lifestyle, while improving self-confidence and reducing antisocial behaviour.
Sharon Bouhali, sales director at our West Wales, said: “We are delighted to support Ogmore Valley Dragons Boxing Club.
“Boxing is a fantastic way for people of all ages to keep fit, meet new people and increase confidence.
“This club is particularly impressive as it also offers invaluable sessions to improve mental health and wellbeing.
“We very much hope they are successful in raising all the money required to fix the roof to improve the facility for everyone.”
Stunning new homes are currently for sale in the Bridgend area at Llys Ystrad in Cefn Glas and Tir Y Bont in Coity.
