A Sunderland community interest company has welcomed a donation from our Durham team.
Life Kitchen based in Mowbray Park in Sunderland has been awarded a donation of £1,000 having successfully applied for funding via our Community Champions scheme.
Ryan Riley, co-founder of Life Kitchen, this week took receipt of the donation from Ed Alder, Managing Director of our Durham busness, in the presence of local MP Julie Elliott.
Riley, a famed chef and author, set up the not-for-profit cookery school five years ago with trained chef and food stylist Kimberley Duke.
The school provides cooking classes for people whose taste has been affected by cancer or cancer treatment.
Working with the Centre for Study of the Senses, Ryan and the team have developed a series of recipes and written a book specifically designed to help those have lost or had their taste altered.
Ryan Riley, Co-Founder of Life Kitchen added;
“I would like to say a huge thank you to Persimmon for their support, it really does mean a lot to everyone in our team at Life Kitchen.
“The donation will allow us to run a cooking class here in Sunderland, which will enable us to share our recipes with more people and hopefully improve their quality of life and well-being.
“I am really excited for the future of Life Kitchen, we have some exciting plans in the pipeline, but none of this would be possible without such support.”
Julie Elliott, MP for Sunderland Central, commented;
“Ryan and Shaun are offering an incredible service for those who have lost or had their taste altered as a result of cancer treatment and COVID.
“Organisations like Life Kitchen are so important for our city, they help bring communities together and show the amazing lengths people are willing to go to in order to support others.
“It is brilliant to see Persimmon supporting local charitable organisations in Sunderland and in doing so having a positive impact within our communities.”
Ed Alder, Managing Director at our Durham region, said;
“We’re delighted to be able to support Ryan and the team at Life Kitchen.
“It is inspiring to see the commitment and dedication with which they approach their work and I have no doubt they will continue improving people’s lives for years to come.”
