Local group dancing for joy with Persimmon funding

23 November 2021

A local group that offers inclusive dance opportunities and workshops has received a major cash boost from Community Champions.

Persimmon Homes West Midlands has awarded Shropshire Inclusive Dance (SiD) a £1,000 grant as they continue to support local groups and charities in the area. Persimmon donates up to £64,000 a month to fund initiatives as part of the highly successful Community Champions scheme.

Since 2012, SiD has delivered projects bringing children, young people and adults together from all parts of the community to explore, create and perform dance together.

Ray Jacobs, from the group, said: “First of all I’d like to say a huge thanks to everyone at Persimmon Homes, this is absolutely fantastic news. We’re currently raising money to support a programme of weekly movement and dance classes for adults with disabilities.

“This is particularly important at the moment as disabled people have been in isolation for so long and need support in socialising, renewing confidence in their bodies and experiencing enjoyment.

“The classes will be facilitated by experienced teachers and creative advocates and we also have a team on hand to help individuals access the support they need to attend.

“Before this additional funding we’d raised £2,750 but thanks to Persimmon we’ve now surpassed our target of £3,500 which is incredible.”

David Greengrass, head of sales for Persimmon Homes West Midlands, said: “We’re delighted to be donating our Community Champions grant to Shropshire Inclusive Dance this month.

“Ray and the team engage people throughout the community and we were really impressed with how they’re able to work with people of all ages and abilities, tailoring sessions to meet each individuals needs.

“It’s really important that we take care of our physical and emotional well-being after what has been a challenging 18 months, and these types of activity groups are exactly what people need as we start getting back to normal life.”
