A leading local housebuilder has donated books to 70 schools across Cornwall to help children gain a perspective of the construction industry.
On behalf of Persimmon Homes, regional apprenticeship manager, Andy Wallis, has distributed ‘Cones and Building Homes’ to every primary school involved in Cornwall’s Start Small; Dream Big project hub.
The housebuilder is a proud Cornerstone Employer committed to raising awareness of careers in construction and is working closely with the Careers Hub in Cornwall and Isles of Scilly. Copies will arrive by post after the summer half term to around 70 schools across Cornwall.
Regional Apprenticeship Manager, Andy Wallis said “We hope that the pupils at schools across Cornwall enjoy learning about the Cones family on their adventures exploring the construction sector. We are very proud to be a Cornerstone Employer working with the Careers Hub Cornwall and Isles of Scilly and committed to raising awareness of careers in construction.
“The Cones storybooks introduce children to how things are made, principles of safety, collaboration, friendship, diversity, protection of the environment and ethical and moral values by which to live. The books aim to provide children with a better understanding of our industry and the great opportunities which exist at Persimmon and across the construction sector.”
Carrie Childs, Hub Lead for Careers Hub Cornwall and Isles of Scilly, added “Careers Hub Cornwall and Isles of Scilly is thrilled to receive this donation from Persimmon for our Start Small, Dream Big Primary Schools. Primary careers related learning is all about broadening children’s horizons and the ‘Cone Building Homes’ books will certainly help children understand the different occupations available in the building sector and keep their aspirations wide-ranging.”
