Katrina Murray and Frank McNally meet apprentices and hear how Persimmon Homes’ Royale Meadows development is tackling North Lanarkshire’s housing shortage
Katrina Murray, MP for Cumbernauld and Kirkintilloch, and Frank McNally, MP for Coatbridge and Bellshill have visited Persimmon Homes’ Royale Meadows development in Muirhead to see first-hand how the project is delivering new homes, jobs, and community investment.
During the visit, the MPs met local apprentices from their constituencies who are learning their trade on site, gaining valuable skills for a career in construction.
They also heard how 44 of the new homes will be transferred to Sanctuary Scotland to help reduce North Lanarkshire’s 12,000-strong housing waiting list, providing high-quality, affordable housing for local families.
Now in its second phase, Royale Meadows will deliver 292 energy-efficient new homes when complete. The development has already generated more than £1.2 million in local investment, including:
- £140,000 for new play park equipment for both new and existing residents.
- £200,000 towards road improvements in the local area.
As part of Persimmon Homes community champions programme, the company has made donations to local groups including Moodiesburn Scout Group and The Gartcosh Fishing Group, and through a partnership with Sanctuary Scotland, provided £10,000 to Auchengeich Boxing Club to help refurbish their gym.
Chris Logan, Managing Director at Persimmon Homes West Scotland, said:
“It was a pleasure to welcome Katrina Murray and Frank McNally to Royale Meadows and show them the real difference this development is making to the community.
“By creating energy-efficient homes, transferring properties to Sanctuary Scotland, and providing local jobs and training opportunities, we are not only helping to address the housing shortage but also leaving a lasting positive impact in the area.”
