LFRFC receiving cheque from persimmon

East Wales region has donated a thousand pounds to a youth rugby team in Llantwit Fardre as part of our Community Champions scheme.

Persimmon Homes East Wales, behind The Parish development at Capel Llanilltern, presented Llantwit Fardre RFC Minis and Juniors with its cheque at the town’s rugby club. It has used the funds to purchase new kits for the players, which Persimmon has sponsored.

Llantwit Fardre RFC has brought the sport of rugby to town the surrounding areas since 1899. Running senior and youth, men’s and women’s teams, the club also has one of the biggest Mini & Juniors sections in Wales with over 400 active players from 6 to 16.

They have teams at every age group and sit firmly at the heart of the community. The club is largely self-funded and fully appreciate the support that Persimmon have provided to the Under 14s.

There are three and four-bed homes available from £264,995 at Capel Llanilltern on the outskirts of Cardiff, five miles from Llantwit Fardre. The multi-phase site will see 1,500 high-quality homes built during construction with a new primary school, shops, offices, sport pitches and a transport park-and-ride facility delivered alongside them.

The funding came from our Community Champions scheme which sees the East Wales region donate £24,000 each year to good causes and commendable organisations in the areas in which it develops. Recent recipients in the area include Show Racism the Red Card.

Commenting, Persimmon Homes East Wales’ sales director, Victoria Williams, said:

“We are very pleased to support a local club like Llantwit Fardre RFC that caters towards young people in the area.

“Persimmon regularly and proudly use our Community Champions fund to lend a helping hand to youth sports team as they provide numerous benefits health and behavioural benefits for children and, for many, playing for them will be the part of the week they look forward to most.

“Not far away from the town is The Parish, our development at Capel Llanilltern, which will eventually become home for 1,500 families and many thereafter, so supporting local teams like this one means the children at The Parish will have a nearby club to play for.”

Dave Barratt – Chair of Llantwit Fardre RFC Mini & Juniors section – added:

“We’re very grateful to Persimmon for supporting the rugby club’s young players with this donation. The funds have gone towards much-needed new kits for our players that will proudly bear the Persimmon name.

“Sport can be an escape for children that also teaches them values about team-work and keeps them fit, so if the kids love playing rugby for their local town, the better for them, and we will always appreciate help that allows us to do this.”
