Malmesbury charity’s ‘Big Give Christmas Challenge Campaign’ supported by Wessex

23 December 2022

HEALS of Malmesbury has received funding toward its ‘Big Give Christmas Challenge Campaign’ from Wessex region.

Small local charity, HEALS of Malmesbury, has received a donation of £500 from Wessex region.

The charity specialises in supporting individuals and families who may be in poverty and vulnerable by providing hardship support and access to local services.

HEALS set out their ‘Big Give Christmas Challenge Campaign’ with the aim of raising £8,000 to support disadvantaged families over the Christmas period with activity days, lunches, children’s toys and much more.

Wessex's pledge of £500 is instrumental in HEALS being able to access matched funding sources – on this occasion provided by the Wiltshire Match Fund – and the organisation being accepted to participate in the public fundraising campaign.

The organisation has since smashed its target and has raised an incredible £12,028 in total. A cheque was presented at the HEALS Christmas Lunch which was attended by the Mayor of Malmesbury, Cllr Kim Power.

Commenting on Wessex's donation, HEALS Chair of Trustees, Cllr Gavin Grant, said:

“We would like to say a huge thank you to Persimmon Homes Wessex for their generosity which has enabled us to raise significant funds to support our Christmas programme, and those disadvantaged in our community over the winter months.

“Thanks to the support, our HEALS Christmas Programme is now in full swing with two coach loads due to go on the Swindon Pantomime trip and over 100 people booked into our Annual Christmas Community lunch supported by over 20 volunteers.

“Our Christmas family support programme – Operation Santa – is now active and will provide children’s toys, books and Christmas goody bags to those facing financial hardship over the festive season.

“The support from Persimmon will go a long way to helping local people in need.”

Julian Roper, Managing Director at Wessex, said:

“We are delighted to be able to contribute toward HEALS’ Christmas crowdfunding campaign.

“The festive period can be challenging for many, and the work carried out by HEALS and their volunteers is an invaluable service for so many families.

“As a local business, it is great to be able to give back and support the local community in Malmesbury, and we hope the donation helps make a real difference for families this Christmas.”
