Midlands Site Manager helps to raise £58,000 for local hospice

14 November 2022

Northamptonshire-based Site Manager has taken part in a cycle event to raise £58,000 for the Willen Hospice.

John Barnwell, from Bozeat in Northamptonshire, was part of the support team backing 33 cyclists riding the 678 miles between Paris and Nice. The group - who took five days to complete the challenge - raised £58,000 for the hospice which provides end-of-life care for patients and their families in Milton Keynes and the surrounding areas.

Willen Hospice has cared for patients for over 40 years, giving compassionate, personal end of life care at its In-Patient Unit and in people’s homes. Willen Hospice is run by local people for local people. Countless people in the community are passionate about the charity, helping to drive fundraising and donations.

Dawn Clark, Fundraising Manager at the Willen Hospice, said: “The charity relies totally on fundraising to be able to offer the high standards of care we provide to our patients. This event was a great example of people coming together to set themselves a personal challenge and at the same time, help us with our fundraising efforts. A big thank you from us all.”

John Barnwell, Assistant Site Manager at Midlands, said: “It was great to be involved in this event and to raise funds for the Willen Hospice who I have seen at first hand, offer fantastic end of life care. This is my second time being involved in the Paris to Nice cycle – having been a part of the support crew in the past.

“Since then, one of my fellow cyclists developed cancer and unfortunately passed away – in his final weeks, he was cared for at the Willen Hospice – so this time around, the challenged seemed all the more important.

“I’d like to thank all of those who donated – including my colleagues at Persimmon who have contributed to a local collection.”
