Nesta celebrates 20 years with Persimmon

22 January 2018

A tap-dancing grandma from Bridgend is celebrating two decades at Persimmon Homes.

Nesta Bresner, a 64-year-old grandmother-of-three is currently working at the Mulberry Grove site in St Fagans, near Cardiff, being built by Persimmon Homes’ sister company, Charles Church.

She said: “I’ve loved it, it’s a fantastic job. There’s pressure of course, but there’s also a lot of pleasure in seeing people from the first time they walk through the door, right through to picking up the keys. I’ve started developments from scratch and I’ve closed developments down. These days I also enjoy mentoring the younger members of staff.”

Nesta had been working in a home store when she decided to make the move into housebuilding. She started out at Westbury Homes, which was later acquired by Persimmon.

“I was probably very shy in that first interview and I don’t think they were sure about taking me on, but my friend worked at the company and she persuaded the management to give me a chance,” said Nesta.

“I grew in confidence from there. I started off as part-time doing two days a week but soon went to full-time. Since then I’ve worked on sites right across South Wales.”

Nesta, who enjoys tap, jazz and modern dancing in her spare time, said the industry had changed in her 20 years. “Househunters are much more knowledgeable these days,” she said. “It’s very easy for them to do quite a bit of research online before they visit the marketing suite, so they know exactly what is available in the area, and at what price. It’s also easier for first time buyers with Help to Buy and parents are tending to help out with deposits rather than leaving it as inheritance.”

Nesta is currently working at Mulberry Grove with new trainee Cody Lewis. Four miles from Cardiff city centre, Mulberry Grove is a small development of 90 homes, with just 16 properties remaining. Nesta said: “Mulberry Grove is one of the most picturesque and unique developments I’ve ever had the pleasure of working on. The houses have been built in traditional styles to blend in with the old village of St Fagans. I’d love to live here myself, so it’s an easy sell.”

There are seven different house types currently available to suit all needs and budgets, from the magnificent five-bedroom detached Colwyn to the four-bedroom, three-storey Pendine. Prices start at £289,995.
