New build journey one pop of colour at a time!

Homes across the UK are awash with soft and muted tones of grey, but Persimmon’s latest Instagram ambassador is bringing a much-needed pop of colour to her interior decorating.
Farwa is the creative interior design brains behind @thehousewiththepinkbed, showcasing her new-build journey one DIY job at a time.
Farwa bought her 4-bed Leicester style home in Birmingham back in April 2019, and the stunning pink bed that inspired her Instagram name was actually the first piece of furniture she and her husband bought for their brand new home.
Farwa said: “The pink bed was actually the first piece of furniture we bought for this house, and probably one of the first large pieces of furniture we bought together generally as we were renting a furnished property prior to our move. I knew I wanted this bed the minute I saw it, so we made sure to order it in time to arrive for when we completed. It started off our love for pink interiors!”
She describes her style as colourful but muted with lots of mid-century influences but mixed with a love for eclectic and colourful interiors: “I love having texture in the house and I'm very drawn to anything that has tassels or pom poms, to the dismay of my husband!”
Inspiration for her home décor comes from Instagram and Pinterest.
“Instagram has many beautiful period homes with gorgeous character, but I was struggling to find many newbuild accounts that had colourful interiors. I wanted to make an account to be inspired and also inspire others and show off a slightly unconventional approach to newbuild, with lots of DIY and colour, and to show that newbuilds have a lot of potential and can be filled with personality.”
Of all the projects and all the rooms in the house, it is the main bedroom that is Farwa’s favourite in the house.
“We love having the entire top floor to ourselves, it gives us a bit of privacy and its very special. The size of the room is really good and we have enough space to have decent fitted wardrobes (that was a DIY job!), an arm chair, and a dressing table with lots of floor space. It's a dream.”
And she urges anyone moving into a new build to treat it as a blank canvas onto which they can add in their own personality.
“There is so much potential to create character that suits you in small and easy ways, such as by putting in dado rails or polystyrene coving, and it's all DIY friendly!”
