New build welcomes newborn

22 March 2021

They say if walls could talk, then every house would have a story to tell!

Well....a new build in Cardiff has a pretty good tale already, after a baby was born in the lounge within two-and-a-half months of completion.

Hannah Davies and Ben Evans moved into their two-bedroom Morden style property at Persimmon Homes’ The Parish @ Llanilltern Village development in Creigiau when Hannah was 31 weeks pregnant. They couple made the decision to have their second child at home with midwife support.

And just over nine weeks after getting the keys to their property, that’s exactly what happened when little Forest entered the world. Hannah, a 25-year-old recruitment consultant, said: “We decided it’d be nice to have our son at home. I was in labour all day on the Monday and then at 12:14am on January 5 Forest was born. I was there with my knees on the floor and my arms on the sofa and, luckily for me, it was quite quick. The hospital was only 10 minutes away but there was no need to go. We just sat on the sofa for a bit, made the midwives a coffee and then went to bed. When my 18-month-old Bodhi woke up in the morning we were able to introduce him to his new brother.”

Hannah and 32-year-old telephone account manager Ben moved to Creigiau from Gelli in Rhondda Cynon Taff to be nearer to their work and to friends. They looked at other homes in Cardiff but, with a young son, another on the way and two full-time jobs, they opted for a new build. We haven’t got the time for a do-er upper, we just wanted a plain canvas,” said Hannah. We used the Part Exchange scheme on our existing property which made things a lot easier. We were actually downsizing so we had to sell a lot of furniture but went for some upgrades to the kitchen doors, radiators, shower and wardrobes. We’ve really settled in well. There are nice walks nearby as well as schools, doctors and parks. Persimmon have been great and have helped us all the way.”

The Parish @ Llanilltern Village is a collection of one, two, three and four-bedroom homes.
