New donation on the cards for local charity ACES
16 December 2022

A North Ayrshire charity is stepping up its support for local families this Christmas after receiving a £1,000 donation from home builder Persimmon West Scotland.
Ayrshire Communities Education and Sport (ACES) is based in Kilwinning and runs a variety of services to help people in need across North Ayrshire and beyond. The charity’s Woodwynd's Wee Shoap provides access to groceries such as fresh fruit, vegetables and meat to help families facing food poverty this winter.
ACES currently has 320 clients on its books, who can pick up to £25 worth of food and essential items for just £4. The charity has also recently opened a community diner, with a low cost menu featuring items such as a bowl of homemade soup and a roll for a £1 donation.
The £1,000 donation is being delivered through Persimmon’s Community Champions scheme, which supports good causes in areas where the company builds, and will be used to help stock the shop and diner and ensure more local families can benefit from ACES’ valuable support.
Colin Young, ACES Development Officer, said:
“I’m delighted to receive this donation and I want to thank Persimmon for their support.
“Lots of local families need our help now more than ever and this will go a long way to ensuring more people in need can benefit from our support this winter.”
Chris Logan, Persimmon West Scotland Managing Director, said:
“With the cost of living crisis having a real impact on family budgets across North Ayrshire, the support ACES gives to local families is absolutely crucial. I’m pleased we’re able to support the great work they do and say thanks to Colin and his team.
“Our Community Champions programme is about supporting the communities in which we operate and I hope this donation will ensure more local families can benefit from the support ACES provides.”
