Next set of Wantage homes gets sign-off from Council

The developer behind the Wellington Gate development in Wantage has secured planning permission for the latest tranche of new homes on the former Grove Airfield site.

The Vale of White Horse District Council has granted planning approval on a Persimmon Homes Wessex scheme for 152 high-quality homes, as part of the five-star developer’s seventh phase at the development.

The builder will also transfer 35 of the properties to a housing association for the purposes of affordable and social housing, helping local people on the Council’s housing waiting list.

Persimmon’s Wellington Gate site, situated on the old airfield between Wantage and Grove, will see 1,500 high-quality homes constructed once complete. Three and four-bed homes are currently available for purchase – for more information please visit www.persimmonhomes.com

The five-star developer has collaborated closely with the Vale of White Horse District Council and local parish councils on the local Green Infrastructure Strategy, creating a network of multi-functional green spaces to deliver a wide range of environmental, economic, and wellbeing benefits for local residents.

Alongside the new homes, Persimmon has delivered a primary school, with sport pitches due to be handed over in the new year as part of the new sustainable community. Construction has also already commenced on the secondary school that form part of the overall plans.

Persimmon Homes Wessex has also supported local groups such as Wantage Literary Festival, Sustainable Wantage, and Oxford Food Hub through its Community Champions initiative, which donates £24,000 each year to community organisations and good causes in the areas it develops. The business has also supported local career fairs in the area.

Commenting, Seb Spiller – Deputy Managing Director at Persimmon Homes Wessex – said:

“We are delighted to have secured planning approval for the latest phase of our Wellington Gate development in Wantage.

“This milestone marks another significant step in delivering high-quality, sustainable homes for the community, including much-needed affordable and social housing to support local people.

“Persimmon looks forward to continuing our work with local stakeholders and residents to deliver this important project that will deliver growth and homes for people in the Wantage and Grove area.”
