Norwich youth causes scoop community cash

12 January 2021

Two Norwich good causes supporting young people in the city have each scooped donations from Persimmon Anglia’s Community Champions fund.

Theatre company The Common Lot and educational charitable trust St Edmunds Society were selected by the regional Persimmon team to benefit from the monthly scheme, which supports charities and organisations in areas where the company is building.

John Eldridge, director in charge for Persimmon Anglia, said: “This has been a tough year for charities and the arts, so we are pleased to be able to help two respected local good causes.”

St Edmunds Society delivers vocational training to vulnerable young people, aged 14- 25, providing them with an alternative provision to mainstream education, where they are unable to cope. A grant of £1,000 from Persimmon will be used to purchase vital PPE such as safety screens and hand sanitiser, keeping students safe while they access their training courses. Participatory theatre company, The Common Lot, based at the Phoenix Centre, makes shows with, for and about local people. Persimmon’s donation of £850 will help the group establish a 10-week pilot project for a youth theatre for 16-24-year-olds who are not in work or education. The aim of the group is to develop teamwork, confidence and employability. For more information visit www.thecommonlot.org

John Eldridge added: “We look forward to receiving many more Community Champions applications from groups who are making a real difference to the lives of local people.”

Persimmon Homes Anglia makes two donations of up to £1,000 every month. The online application form can be found at www.persimmonhomes.com/charity
