Outline planning permission for South West region secured
06 March 2024
South West region is working towards bringing new homes to the city.
South West region secured outline planning consent for up to 50 high-quality homes, 35% of which will be designated for a local housing association, in line with Exeter City Council policy, on land adjacent to Blakeslee Drive in Newcourt.
The site is 3.2 hectares in size with family housing making up around a third of this while the remaining area will be provided as open space and surface water drainage.
To the south, the open space land will extend the existing basin to support the new development and will include further planting to provide biodiversity enhancement. The existing quality trees including a large Oak tree will be protected and will form part of the enhanced open space on the development site.
South West region has worked closely with the Local Newcourt Community Association during the process and will undertake road works to widen the bend on Omaha Drive adjoining River Plate Road.
Persimmon has a significant presence in Exeter and on its East Devon outskirts: it currently has two sites at Tithebarn – Ashworth Place and Cherrywood Grange, where homes are available for purchase from £259,995 – and is one of the developers involved in the expansion of Cranbrook.
Our Community Champions initiative – which sees over £700,000 donated to good causes and much-valued organisations across Britian each year – has recently seen local donations go to Hospiscare, Stoke Hill AFC U9s, and Ladysmith Infant & Junior School.
Commenting, South West region Managing Director Dan Heathcote said:
“I am delighted to have secured outline consent for this development in Newcourt.
“It is a testament to the planning team that we engaged so closely with local residents to ensure that we could bring up to 50 more homes to Exeter – with a substantial number for a housing association – and that this was recognised by the City Council.
“Alongside the S106 commitments and green initiatives associated with the site to enhance the area, I believe this exemplifies the highs standards we have at Persimmon and our determination to support sustainable communities through collaboration.
“Persimmon looks forward to continuing its engagement with the Council and residents throughout the process.”
