Pentyrch rugby team scores funding boost
14 December 2021
A newly-launched village rugby team is looking forward to a bright future after securing funding from our East Wales region.
Pentyrch RFC has set up a new under-8s team and has been boosted by a £1,000 grant through our Community Champions scheme.
Each and every month we donate up to £64,000 to good causes across the UK.
Wenna Pritchard, who applied for the funding, said: “This is amazing news for us. We are extremely grateful.
“We started as under-7s last year with no funds. Unfortunately, due to the pandemic, we struggled to get sponsorship and couldn’t raise money through the kitchen as Covid guidelines wouldn’t allow it.
“It wasn’t the best of starts, but we’ve begun afresh as under-8s and we’re hoping to build funds towards the new squad.”
Victoria Williams, sales director at our East Wales region, said: “We’re delighted to be able to support Pentyrch RFC under-8s.
“Sports clubs have had such a tough time during the last year-and-a-half. Raising money is hard enough without a pandemic making it even more difficult.
“Rugby is a great way for young people to keep fit, gain teambuilding skills and make friends for life. It’s our national obsession, and we’re pleased to be playing a part in that.
“We’re committed to helping the communities in which we are building and this is just another example of that.”
Persimmon is currently building stunning new homes at The Parish @ Llanilltern Village, where there are one, two, three and four-bedroom homes available.
