Percy Hedley School, based in Killingworth, has received a £1,000 donation from our North East business.
The specialist education provider received the donation after applying for funding through our Community Champions initiative.
Percy Hedley School aims to make a difference to the learning, well-being and future life chances of children with additional needs in the North East.
Teachers, therapists, and special support assistants work together in trans-disciplinary teams to meet the individual needs of every pupil and give them the best chance of success throughout their school lives.
The school support children with a variety of learning difficulties, including: Cerebral Palsy, Motor Disorders, Autism, Communication Difficulties, Visual Impairment and Blindness.
With the money donated from ourselves, Percy Hedley School will be purchasing some art supplies for the children.
Local charities, sports clubs and community groups are encouraged to apply to our Community Champions scheme which provides £180,000 of funding every quarter.
Over the last two years the initiative has donated over £1.35 million to over 1,400 local organisations across the country with winners receiving either £6,000, £5,000 or £1,000.
Patracia Boynton, Trusts & Foundations Fundraiser for Percy Hedley, commented:
“We are delighted to receive this funding from Persimmon Homes. Their generous donation will pay for art supplies for the children to use and this will help to improve the mental health and well-being and the children at our school.”
Stuart Grimes, Managing Director of our North East business, added
“Supporting local communities through our Community Champions initiative is at the heart of what we do here at Persimmon.
“It is a pleasure to be able to support so many amazing organisations, such as the Percy Hedley School and hope that this money will help the school continue the fantastic support it provides local young people.”
