Persimmon Homes has announced it has partnered with West College Scotland.
Persimmon has partnered with the local construction college to deliver apprenticeships as it expands its work across the West of Scotland.
Persimmon, who pride themselves on creating high-paid local jobs and apprenticeships as part of their developments, has recruited an apprentice painter and decorator who will study at West College Scotland’s Paisley campus whilst learning on the developer’s sites.
Ross Lyle, 22, from Motherwell is the five-star builders first apprentice within the college following his appointment with Persimmon. The apprentice will be working on a variety of sites across the West of Scotland whilst studying at the college as he hones his craft.
West College Scotland is greatly benefiting from its valued new partnership with Persimmon, who are supporting the College’s Construction and Building Services department. In addition to providing students with valuable industry experience and ensuring all projects are completed and available for portfolio evidence, the builder has generously donated building materials, including pallets of bricks, to aid on-campus learning.
Ian MacPherson, Persimmon’s Regional Apprenticeship Manager, said:
“We’re delighted formalise our partnership with West College Scotland with Ross Lyle being our first apprentice in the college who will be studying at the Paisley campus.
“We pride ourselves on working closely with construction colleges across the country to ensure that young people with the ambition and attitude needed to succeed in the industry are given a platform to do so locally.”
Dr Lee Coutts, Assistant Principal Creativity, Technologies & Skills said:
“The College’s partnership with Persimmon is a fantastic example of industry and education working hand in hand to develop the next generation of skilled workers. This collaboration not only provides students like Ross with career progression but also highlights Persimmon’s commitment to supporting the local community and economy through apprenticeships and job creation. We're excited to see Ross thrive as he progresses through his apprenticeship."
