Persimmon donation supports local outdoor enrichment facility
22 April 2022
An outdoor enrichment facility for children with special educational needs or disability (SEND) and adults suffering with mental health problems has received a cash boost thanks to a donation from one of the UK's largest housebuilders.
Persimmon Homes North Midlands has awarded The Phoenix Children's Foundation a £1,000 grant as they continue to help local groups and charities in the area.
Persimmon donates up to £64,000 a month to fund initiatives as part of the highly successful Community Champions scheme.
The Phoenix Children’s Foundation was established in 2006 with the sole aim of enriching and enhancing the lives of youngsters and their families living with illness, disability or lack of opportunity.
It owns a small menagerie of animals, ranging from alpacas and pigs to Shetland ponies and reindeer, all of whom provide young people with opportunities to grow emotionally and learn through Animal Assisted Activity (AAA).
Clare Smith, from the charity, said: “This is incredible news, we can’t thank Persimmon Homes enough for selecting us to receive this funding.
“We are responsible for many of the most vulnerable and needy families in the community and we want to expand our offerings to these families.
“We have seen a huge increase in demand for food produce which we receive from our local M&S and they are keen to increase these collection slots for us.
“However, we need to create a purpose-built area for a community fridge to enable us to meet the requirements of our service users and their families.
“We have received several quotes and this £1,000 donation will go a long way towards helping us complete this project.”
Nadine O'Dowd, sales director at Persimmon Homes North Midlands, said: “We’re delighted to have chosen The Phoenix Children’s Foundation to receive our Community Champions donation this month.
“The charity is entirely reliant on donations, as well as the dedication of its volunteers and trustees, to run on daily basis so we’re really pleased to be involved in their latest project.
“Hopefully in the coming months they will be able to get set up in order to help more local families who are in desperate need of this vital service.”
