Persimmon helps to create children's book

Persimmon Homes has partnered with a successful author to help create a new book, teaching young children how homes are built.
The company is sponsoring author Chris Madeley to write the latest in her award-winning series of ‘Cones’ adventures – and invited her to one of its active sites to see for herself the construction process.
She said: “My books follow a group of inquisitive traffic cones who come to life and explore human behaviour. Each story is designed around an adventure where the Cones encounter potential danger and learn to enjoy their environment safely.”
“Their next story sees them exploring how a home is built – so I was thrilled to visit Persimmon’s development at The Blossoms in Blackburn to learn about all the stages of construction.”
As part of her research visit, Chris collected information and took photographs of the building process to be included in the story and illustrations.
The Cones series of books introduces the Cone family and the many friends they make as they encounter roadworks, railways, car parks, electricity sub-stations, canals and rivers, power plants and hospitals. Every story includes positive messages about diversity and acceptance as well as how everyone can support ecology and respect nature.
More information about the books, illustrated by Zara Hussain, Emily Vaughan and Darcy Cash, can be found at www.theconesbooks.co.uk
John Roocroft, managing director for Persimmon Homes Lancashire, added: “The Cones are a great way of introducing children to the concept of safety in a friendly and non-scary way. Through the stories they can also gain an insight into how people’s activities may impact the natural environment to help them make good life choices for themselves.
“We are very pleased to be able to support this book and look forward to seeing how the Cones characters interact with a new homes construction site.”
