Persimmon Homes contributes almost £2.5m to support community

17 April 2020

Almost £2.5million of infrastructure investment is to be poured into a community, thanks to the construction of family homes in a village near Taunton.

Monkton Heathfield and the surrounding area will gain from a Community Investment Levy worth approximately £2million, thanks to contributions being made by Persimmon Homes South West when construction recommences on the £40 million Hartnells Farm development off Bawler Road.

Planning permission has been granted for a development of 320 homes, of which 25 per cent will be affordable.

The development, situated just over three miles from Taunton, will also benefit from an arboretum, landscaping and fully equipped play areas.

In addition to the £2m levy Persimmon Homes will contribute £450,000 towards improving sustainable drainage around the 21-acre site.

As well as the financial contributions, and to encourage residents to adopt sustainable travel options, green travel vouchers will be made available to households on the development.

In addition, the Home Builders’ Federation estimates 4.3 jobs are created for every new home built*, both directly in the construction industry and through the supply chain, which is also a support to the local economy.

Robert Hart, director in charge of Persimmon Homes South West, said: “As a responsible builder, whenever we start working within a community, we look at ways to support local people and infrastructure.”

“These Section 106 contributions are required as part of the planning process and, in the case of Hartnells Farm, this will contribute a significant amount of funding to improve and enhance local life and the environment.”

“We are also pleased to be creating jobs in construction and the supply chain which brings a boost to Taunton’s economy and the Somerset region overall.”

Stacey Harris, head of sales for Persimmon Homes South West, added: “At Hartnells Farm we are creating a range of attractive two, three and four-bedroom houses and we are committed to providing a desirable selection of homes for local people at the right price.”

“We are delighted to have welcomed our first customers into their new homes and there has been a great deal of interest in the development since we opened our show home earlier this year.”

Persimmon Homes South West is one of the region’s leading housebuilders having built thousands of new properties across the area in recent years, including Heathfield Gardens in Bathpool.
