Persimmon Homes Donates £10,000 to cancer charity
19 June 2014
Persimmon PLC has donated £10,000 to Macmillan Cancer Support.
The founder and life president of Persimmon PLC, Duncan Davidson, presented a cheque to Lady Halifax, national president of Macmillan, at the charity’s raceday on 14th June 2014.
Since its start in 1971 the charity event, held at York Racecourse, has raised more than £6.2 million with the monies going to a range of good causes including Macmillan. On Saturday alone the event raised over £330,000.
Persimmon has regularly supported the event, which regularly attracts over twenty-five thousand racegoers, and was delighted to give Macmillan the donation, as Mr Davidson explains.
He said: “Macmillan is a charity close to everybody’s hearts as cancer can touch so many of us during our lives. The Macmillan Charity Raceday is always a wonderfully enjoyable event that helps raise valuable funds for so many charities. We are very happy to support Macmillan and hope our donation goes some way in helping to make a difference to families who are affected by cancer.”
Lady Halifax accepted the Persimmon donation following the events first race, the Queen Mother’s Cup.
She added: “Persimmon’s donation is very generous and will certainly go towards making a difference to peoples’ lives. For over four decades we have worked with York Racecourse on this event and it never fails to be a fantastically organised and entertaining day.”
Macmillan Cancer Support improves the lives of people affected by cancer by providing practical, medical and emotional support as well as pushing for better cancer care.
