Persimmon Homes pitches in to fund adventure mission for scouts
02 March 2020
A Darlington scout group looking to organise a trip to help members develop their skills has been awarded £500 by Persimmon Homes.
The 21st Darlington Scouts, based in Darlington, received the cash from Persimmon Homes to help them fund the trip for 48 people including scouts and leaders.
The group has held a number of fundraising events but were awarded the cash by Persimmon Homes Teesside after applying for the Persimmon Homes Community Champions scheme.
The programme enables clubs, groups and good causes to apply for funding up to the value of £1,000 to match money they have already raised themselves. Each month Persimmon Homes Teesside donates two cash pots - each worth up to £1,000.
Ken Bousfield, for the scouts, said: “As we have members with restricted funds we have deliberately chosen our location to keep costs down, but this will not limit the adventure of the fun.”
“The scouts have been demonstrating their enthusiasm and commitment by raising funds for the residential trip, which will see them tackling activities to gain their badges and this donation is a wonderful boost for them. They are already planning their adventure and are very grateful to Persimmon Homes Teesside for the support.”
Kevin Thubron, director in charge for Persimmon Homes Teesside, added: “The scout group is important to the local community in and around the town.”
“Learning life skills at an early age is essential in a youngster’s development and taking part in scouting activities certainly provides that.”
“We’re proud our donation is able to help the group in some way and we wish them well on their adventure and every success in achieving their badges.”
