Persimmon Homes plans for former RAF base take off

10 July 2012

Persimmon Homes Thames Valley today unveiled details of its part in the prestigious redevelopment of a former RAF base in West London.

Persimmon Homes expects to develop 460 homes on the former RAF Uxbridge site which has now been renamed St Andrew’s Park in recognition of the landmark provided on the site by St. Andrew’s Gate. The gate is due to be renovated and then retained in its current location.

The station was best known as the headquarters of No. 11 Group RAF, which was responsible for the aerial defence of London and south-east England during the Battle of Britain.

Persimmon Homes has teamed up with regeneration specialist St. Modwen and work is due to start at the end of 2012 on the first part of the development.

It will comprise a range of family homes by Charles Church, part of the Persimmon Group. The overall scheme is expected to take approximately five years to complete.

Managing Director of Persimmon Homes Thames Valley, Ian Menham, said: “We are delighted to be providing high quality homes on a site of such significant heritage. By working closely with St Modwen, it is our aim that the development will bring new life to this historic site and careful consideration and attention is being given to ensuring that the properties blend harmoniously with the local surrounding architecture.

“With a development of this stature also comes the opportunity for more local employment from the wide range of contractors and associated companies who will become involved with the homes during the construction process.

“This scheme brings a brownfield site back into community use and will enhance the vitality of the whole area. Persimmon Homes will be creating a range of homes and apartments as part of the ongoing phases of the development. All Persimmon properties will be lifetime home compliant to suit residents of all ages and abilities.

“We believe that this development will meet the desires and needs of homeowners throughout the widest part of the market - first time buyers, families, commuters, couples trading down but wanting to stay close to Uxbridge town centre and of course investors looking to purchase a property in a key location such as this.”

The Persimmon development is located within the 110-acre site which will include a mix of up to 1,340 homes, shops, offices, a hotel, school and a 45-acre public park.

The site closed as an RAF base in March 2010 as part of a reduction in the number of Ministry of Defence properties in Greater London.
