Persimmon Homes supports Children's Hospice with a huge donation

07 December 2015

A children’s hospice in West Yorkshire has received a windfall donation from Persimmon Homes.

Staff at Persimmon Homes West Yorkshire have raised an amazing £28,082.17 for Forget Me Not Children’s Hospice – more than enough to fund a specialist nurse for a year.

The Leeds-based builder had hoped to raise £20,000 over 12 months, but smashed their goal in just eight months!

The nurses at the charity can visit up to 20 children at home per week. The Persimmon donation could potentially help fund an additional 800 hospice at home visits in 2016.

Wayne Gradwell, managing director at Persimmon Homes West Yorkshire, is immensely proud: "I have been overwhelmed by how my team has embraced the challenge with everyone contributing in some shape or form - from baking cakes to hosting a football tournament.

Others have literally jumped to the challenge proving they have nerves of steel by completing skydives and our technical director took to the sky and raised over £3,500 after taking part in a thrilling wing walk.

Many took on energetic challenges including the Yorkshire three peaks challenge, while five from our planning, technical and construction departments cycled 100 kilometres in a day, taking in seven of our developments."

Forget Me Not Children’s Hospice supports more than 160 children with life-shortening conditions and their families in West Yorkshire through its hospice at homes service and at their state of the art hospice, Russell House, located in Huddersfield.

The charity has to raise £3.8 million each year to maintain its services, receiving just six per cent funding from the Government.

The hospices fully-qualified nurses work alongside other professionals and agencies to offer bespoke care to suit the needs of the child and their family.

Peter Branson, Chief Executive at Forget Me Not Children’s Hospice, visited the Persimmon office to congratulate the team in person.

He said: "Persimmon Homes has been the first company to take on the challenge to support a nurse for a year, and has proved a tremendous role model.

We believe there are more than 700 children in our area that may need our support and Persimmon Homes’ donation will help us to continue to grow our services and keep reaching out to more of these families."

Forget Me Not Children’s Hospice is currently looking for like-minded organisations to support its ‘fund a day’ challenge by raising £10,410. If your business is up for the challenge or would like to find out more information call 01484 411040 or email fundraising@forgetmenotchild.co.uk.
