Persimmon Homes West Yorkshire’s cost-saving donation for Wakefield Hospice
09 July 2021
Wakefield Hospice is set to save £1,000 a year, following a donation from Persimmon Homes West Yorkshire.
Introducing a new window cleaning system at the hospice, and its retail outlets, will enable the charity to make significant savings, releasing more vital funds for patient care.
Wakefield Hospice received a £1,000 donation from the Persimmon Homes Community Champions scheme, which will fund a new ‘reach and wash’ window cleaning system.
Keeley Harrison for Wakefield Hospice said: “A quarter of our funding comes from the NHS so fundraising and donations are vitally important to help support our work. The pandemic has had a dramatic effect on our ability to raise funds through events and retail so finding alternative cost-saving solutions has become essential.
“Cleaning the windows is not purely cosmetic, it helps maintain our infection control measures and standard of care as regular window cleaning helps remove contaminants and pollutants that have stuck to the glass.
“The cleaning system will not only save us valuable funds but has an environmental benefit too as no chemicals will be needed to remove the dirt. We are very grateful to Persimmon Homes.”
Wakefield Hospice provides specialist palliative care for adults in the region as well as providing day therapy, home care service and bereavement support.
Christopher Hull, managing director of Persimmon Homes West Yorkshire, said: “Community Champions has allowed us to support dozens of good causes like Wakefield Hospice.
“Each month we make two donations of up to £1,000 to grassroots groups and charities across the region and continue to encourage other such groups to apply – as next month they could be the fortunate beneficiaries.”
In addition to the Persimmon Homes’ Community Champions scheme, the housebuilder has launched its Building Futures initiative which supports groups working with under-18s. The scheme will make grants to projects across education & arts, health and sport, with the potential of a £100,000 prize giveaway.
