Persimmon makes a splash with swimming club funding

A local competitive swimming club has received a major cash boost thanks to a donation from our North Midlands.

North Midlands region has awarded Leicester Sharks Competitive Swimming Club a £1,000 grant as they continue to support local groups and charities in the area.

Persimmon donates up to £64,000 a month to fund initiatives as part of the highly successful Community Champions scheme.

Leicester Sharks CSC is a progressive competitive swimming club that aims to provide a safe and enjoyable environment in which swimmers can develop their techniques and fulfil their potential.

The club is open to swimmers of all ages and abilities and operates an inclusive policy of training and competitive opportunity.

Jason Taylor, from the club, said: “We’re absolutely thrilled to receive this £1,000 donation and it couldn’t have come at a better time for us.

“During the pandemic we had to raise money to stay afloat by setting up a crowd funding page and asking for donations from the local council.

“As the restrictions have started to ease, we’ve been looking at organising our first open meet. We want to upgrade our acoustic start device package with flashlights so we’ll be able to accommodate the hard of hearing and become a more inclusive club.

“The cost of this does not come cheap so this donation from Persimmon will go a long way towards helping us achieve our goal of offering all disabilities the opportunity to swim at a competitive level.”

The club boasts an ever-growing membership of swimmers from the local area, with many young people wishing to move into the competitive arena or improve their competition ranking.

Jason added: “The club has achieved remarkable success acquiring a positive reputation for professionalism and results.

“The ultimate dream is to one day see a Leicester Sharks’ swimmer on an Olympic podium and the only way to do this is by having the best facilities in the area.”

Nadine O'Dowd, sales director at North Midlands region, said: “We’re extremely happy to be providing Leicester Sharks CSC with this additional £1,000.

“A lot of swimming pools across the country are having to close due to a lack of funding and this has been exacerbated by the coronavirus pandemic.

“Jason is an extremely motivated and ambitious induvial which drew my eye to his application straight away. The club has some really exciting plans in place and I’m sure it will have a long, successful future.”
