Persimmon rewards local football team with cash boost
05 July 2021
A grassroots football team in Telford has been selected to receive a £1,000 cash boost from Persimmon Homes.
Shifnal Football Club Under 7’s successfully applied for the donation through the housebuilder’s Community Champions scheme which supports voluntary groups and good causes in the local area.
Persimmon has supported thousands of community initiatives and charities over the years and is continuing to do so in 2021.
James Mackenzie, Shifnal FC Under 7’s manager, said: “As a newly formed team we are trying to secure an indoor venue for the winter months so that training isn’t cancelled due to adverse weather conditions.
“Covid has had a big impact on young children and we have noticed first hand that some of our players are struggling to socialise.
“We hope that by forming this football team, it will allow children the opportunity to meet a new group of friends and become more confident.
“With this kind donation from Persimmon Homes, we will be able to supply all weather venues for children to train and play, so we would like to thank them for that.”
Shifnal FC plays a big role in the local community and although fundraising has been difficult in recent months, it hasn’t stopped James and the team from getting creative.
He added: “During lockdown the team completed a virtual 10K walk and manged to raise over £400 which was fantastic.
“We’re also looking to sell football cards and run raffles throughout the year to fund more equipment and better facilities.”
Persimmon Homes West Midlands offers two cash boosts of up to £1,000 each month as part of its Community Champions initiative.
Stephen Cleveley, managing director of Persimmon Homes West Midlands, said: “We’re delighted to award one of our Community Champions donations to Shifnal FC Under 7’s.
“We believe that it’s important for children to play and communicate with one another as part of their everyday growth so we’re pleased that we can support this.”
