Persimmon supports Get Cycling event

Persimmon Homes Wessex has furthered its commitment to promoting sustainable and healthy travel by hosting a Get Cycling event at its Badbury Park development.
Supported by Swindon Borough Council, residents were welcomed to find out more information on what’s being done to help encourage greener and healthier journeys in the local area.
PFA Consulting, the Travel Plan Coordinators for the site, organised the event which had lots on offer including free cycling maps, information on cycling in Swindon, bike security marking with Bike Register and a led bike ride around the local area.
Residents were able to bring their existing bikes along to the event for free safety checks and basic bike repairs provided by Mitchell Cycles, one of Swindon's largest cycle retailers.
Free £100 cycling vouchers to use at local bike shops as well as four-week bus passes were also promoted, encouraging residents to start cycling and try out local bus services.
Pauline Fletcher, sales director at Persimmon Homes Wessex, said: “It was great to host another Get Cycling event at Badbury Park alongside Mitchell Cycles. Thankfully the weather stayed dry which meant the event was very well attended and it was great to see so many people get involved with the ride to Coate Water.
“We think it’s really important to encourage and educate our residents about the reasons why reducing trips by private car is so important and what other options are available to them. Being able to offer people a £100 cycle voucher or four-week bus pass was also a fantastic incentive so hopefully we’ll see more residents travel by foot, bike and public transport in the near future.”
Based on the northern edge of the Coate Water Country Park and only two miles from Swindon’s popular Old Town, Badbury Park is located close to a selection of bars, restaurants, cafes and shops.
Andrew Mitchell, owner of Mitchell Cycles, said: “We had such a fun day talking to all the parents and children about why they should start cycling more. We also checked, repaired and security marked every bike that was brought to us throughout the day which was really pleasing.
“The nearest amenities are just a stone's throw away from Badbury Park and I think a lot of people residents were surprised at how accessible Swindon and the local area is. We’re really lucky to be surrounded by beautiful Wiltshire countryside as well so we just wanted to make people aware of the financial, environmental and health benefits cycling has to offer.”
