A cancer survivor who completed the Race for Life has raised more than £1,000 for charity thanks to the support of colleagues at our Persimmon Homes North West office.

Julie Pilling, 46, completed the 5k course at Pennington Flash Country Park in Leigh alongside daughters Charlotte and Megan, raising funds for Cancer Research UK.

More than £850 of the sponsorship money has come from Julie’s colleagues at Persimmon’s North West head office in Urmston, where she works as an accounts supervisor.

Julie said: “I just want to say thank you very much to all my sponsors – your money is going to such a worthy cause.

“I couldn’t have asked for a better company to work for than Persimmon, they have been so understanding and sympathetic towards me during my treatment; everyone has been absolutely brilliant and very generous.

“We did the run – well walk - in 50 minutes because I can't run very far at the moment. Maybe next year!”

Julie, who is from Leigh, was diagnosed with breast cancer in November 2012, and completed all of her treatment – chemotherapy, lumpectomy and radiotherapy, by the end of September. Her daughters took part in last year’s Race for Life while Julie was undergoing treatment, and said that this year’s event was a much happier experience.

“Last year was very difficult,” said Julie, “because I was actually having treatment at the time. So although this year’s race was very emotional, it was a really happy occasion - a celebration of being fit and well.”

Dave Hodgson, sales and marketing director at Persimmon Homes North West, said: “We are all incredibly proud of Julie. She has had a terrible 12 months, and we couldn’t wait to support her in the Race for Life. Well done Julie.”
